Microsoft is Excited for E3 2018 as Former Tomb Raider Studio Head Joins the Team

Head of Microsoft, Matt Booty, welcomed Darrell Gallagher to the executive leadership team via Twitter yesterday. Although his exact role has not been specified, Gallagher will join the Microsoft Executive team ahead of E3 2018 where Microsoft has previously promised the “biggest showing ever” for Xbox.

Gallagher has an extensive resume in the gaming industry, one of the highlights being his decade with Crystal Dynamics where he worked on Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary and Underworld. He became the head of the Studio in 2009 and oversaw the 2013 reboot of the franchise.

Gallagher has worked for a number of other notable gaming companies including Square Enix, Rockstar and Sony. Most recently he has been working with Activision where he has held the roles of senior vice president and head of development. Gallagher is excited to join the executive leadership team at Microsoft and has already begun hyping up their E3 presentation.

With the Xbox One X less than six months old it is unlikely we will new hardware from Microsoft, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have something special for the show.

In recent months, Microsoft has been concentrating on boosting their library with expanded backward compatibility, picking up interesting exclusives such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and expanding their Xbox Game Pass service. It will be interesting to see how they continue to advance those efforts. We can likely also expect to hear news about one or more of their tentpole franchises such as Forza Horizon or Halo.

Unlike previous years, Microsoft will not be part of the show floor, opting instead to move their presence into nearby Microsoft Theater. They say this will be the “biggest showing ever” for Xbox and the larger venue suggests they plan on delivering. Microsoft will kick off their E3 2018 on Sunday, June 10th.
