Once starting up the game the sound effects of the planet your are on are one of the first things to experience and boy are they amazing, from the sound of footsteps on the dirt or metal, to the sound of the Sea as you get closer, its an incredible thing to experience (i was using a headset aswell i should add). You do have that errie sound in the background of noises, creeks and moans as you explore caves and the planet which is incredible, you can tell Teotl Studios Grip have really worked hard on the sounds in the game.
The scenery and graphics are also a wonder to look at in The Solus Project, with planets in the background which look amazing, plants on the planet like giant Venus Fly Traps to these alien like plants which open up as you near are all great little add-ons to make the game more full of life and great to explore.
After a while in awe at the sound and graphics of the game I set out to start my adventure in saving humanity, as im a nice guy like that, you get to choose a difficulty level for the way your vitals are managed from the obvious easy, medium and hard. The controls took me alittle while to get used to as crafting is not done in your inventory more on the ground, you have to highlight the object and can add stuff together from there to craft items. Once it took me a while how to make a sharp rock to get out the first area I was free. I got to explore alittle before realising there was a waypoint for me to go, I was tasked with finding shelter, finding a water source, finding food and making my first source of heat, the torch. Once the short tutorial was done I was told and left to explore until I came across a cave with a sound wave beaming out of it and tasked with finding away inside, once finding my way in through a handy tool I delved deeper into the cave. I got to an artifact which was a save pedestal and a set of candles I could light for more lighting, Carrying on along my path using a few mechanisms to open gates to progress I come to an extremely dark area, me being cautious my spidey sense tingles expecting something to happen but nothing so I continue, then all of a sudden this weird plant creeature screams and jumps up into my screen, I scream jump back and think this is where im going to go toilet and decide im not progressing no more until my heart stops!
This is where I’ve left my game at and wanted to write to you all about my first impressions as I dont want to give too much away, its a great game and can see my self playing alot of this, exploring and finding out this strange planets secrets and hopefully saving humanity. As I said the sound and graphics are a thing of beauty in this game and that alone is well worthy of its purchase, throw in a great story with its own survival aspect and I could see this a possible game of the year contender. im going to thoroughly enjoy the rest of the game and urge all of you to try the preview and give it a purchase you wont be disappointed.
